The Department of Health has convened a group to bring together expertise to inform the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)’s work programme on diabetes. It will provide information and support as the Department of Health works together with NICE, and will help to ensure that its work addresses and reflects the needs of the diabetes community.
The group is chaired by Dr Sue Benbow, Consultant Diabetologist at Aintree Hospitals NHS Trust. It last met in October 2007, where it discussed a number of issues including:
The consultation on the draft revised clinical guidelines on Type 2 diabetes. The group discussed its reaction to the draft guidelines and suggested a number of comments, which helped to inform the Department of Health’s response.
The implementation of the new guidelines on type 2 diabetes. The DH will be working closely with NICE to ensure the guidelines can be implemented effectively.
The proposed short clinical guideline on newer agents for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The final scope of this is due to be published in March 08.
Initial discussions on potential future areas for NICE consideration.
