The objective of this public consultation is twofold. Firstly, the aim is to disseminate information on the work and proposals of the working group on information to patients established under the Pharmaceutical Forum. Secondly, it provides an opportunity for all relevant stakeholders to give their views and comments on the output of the working group. The working group has focused on information to citizens and patients on health and treatment-related information. It should also be noted that the proposals or examples in this consultation are based on the existing European Union legislation on pharmaceuticals. This public consultation is structured around two main areas of work;
1. Diabetes information package (example); and)2. A set of principles on good quality information Concretely, the consultation also consists of two parts: Part I is the introduction which sets out the history and progress made so far; Part II contains the issues of consultation:
• the diabetes information package, and• the quality principles.Finally, it should be noted these documents represent ‘work in progress’ and do not necessarily represent the views of the European Commission or any other members of the working group. This public consultation will last until 4 May 2007. All contributions received will be made public, unless specifically indicated otherwise.To note: There will be a separate consultation specifically on a Commission report on the Provision of Information on Medicines as foreseen in art 88a of Directive 2001/83/EC.
