The HKTDC International Conference & Exhibition of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine and Health Products (ICMCM) has soundly developed as a premier meeting place for Chinese medical practitioners and the companies which supply them.
The seventh edition, scheduled for 2008, will once again bring together the leading lights of Chinese medicine from all over the world.
International gathering
ICMCM 2007 demonstrated that the discipline has great influence in many countries. Over 190 exhibitors came from 12 countries & regions: Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Canada, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Poland, Singapore, Switzerland and Taiwan.
Prominent among the exhibitors were group pavilions from various regions in the Chinese mainland - Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Jilin, Ningxia, Qinghai, Shanghai and Yunnan - as well as from Japan and Korea.
They exhibited products and services from the major industry sectors such as Chinese Medicine, Health Supplement, Health Care & Therapy, Raw Material & Equipment and Research & Development.


Buyers attend in strength
There is strong buyer attendance at ICMCM as the practice of Chinese medicine is recognised worldwide. The show is an opportunity for them to source products, hone their skills and update their knowledge. Over 7,600 trade visitors from 65 countries & regions attended the 2007 event.
A Canadian Life Sciences Trade Mission signed four MOUs with Hong Kong institutes during the fair. The four MOUs covered collaboration in the research, technology transfer, commercialisation and promotion of traditional Chinese medicine and health products in these two markets.
The fair is open to trade buyers during the first two days, and open for public visitors on the remaining three days. The response in past years has been overwhelmingly positive. Exhibitors have had the chance to interact with end-users and gain vital feedback on their products. In 2007, 90,318 members of the public came through the doors.
Wealth of knowledge
At the heart of ICMCM is the two-day professional conference, a fountainhead of valuable insights from key figures in the field of Chinese medicine. The 2007 conference “The Integration of Scientific Research and Development in Novel Chinese Medicines” attracted a large audience who benefited from the knowledge shared by experts from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Canada, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, the United Kingdom and the United States.
As this is a prestigious event, it offers the chance to network with leaders in Chinese medicine and to make important business contacts.
Widening the Scope
Today’s holistic approach to health means that knowledge of all medical and health-related matters is useful. The Hong Kong International Medical & Health Care Fair is concurrent with ICMCM, and at the same venue, the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. A visit would give a good view of the latest practices and products in Western medicine. Another concurrent fair, the HKTDC Food Expo, is also one of the most popular fairs in Hong Kong.
