Wuhan Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (whcdc), authorized by Wuhan Municipal Government, supervised by Wuhan Public Health Bureau , is a commonweal medical institution ,which is responsible for the disease prevention and control, technical managements and service in public health field in Wuhan .
It is founded on original Wuhan Public Health&Anti-epidemic Station, Wuhan Institute of Health Education, Wuhan Institute of Schistosome Prevention and Treatment etc. Now it consists of 7 departments with 4 municipal key subjects. Among a staff of 247, there are 47 persons with senior /associate academic title，the proportion with doctor/master degree is 35，and there are 12 municipal experts awarded municipal/provincial government allowance. WHCDC possess ability of hygiene examination and measurement in first level in China, with 126 facilities valued over 10 thousand RMB, national influenza and tumor surveillance sites and 100 grade disinfectant laboratory.
With the broadly scientific research work , national and international technological communication and collaboration ,in recent years ,WHCDC centers totally acquired 114 great scientific results with 3 prizes for Progress of Medical Science and Technology by the Ministry of Health ,1awards of national Medical Invention, and 39 prizes by municipal/provincial governments. 1500 papers were published in national and international magazines .WHCDC has established academic communication and collaboration relationship with many countries area and organizations such as America, Denmark ,Finland ,Japan , Russia, Canada, Mongolia, Hong Kong and WHO.
The main responsibility and tasks of WHCDC are:
To monitor the factors affecting the public survival environment, health-related products and health level, and to take epidemiological surveillance for the disease. Policy-Making for the disease prevention and control, and quality control and outcome evaluation.
To supply scientific evidence related with disease prevention and control for making laws, regulations, policies, guidelines ect. And to provide technical consultation for health authorities.
To participate and guide the lower health institute to deal with serious epidemic situation and emergent public health events to establishing the emergency response system in Wuhan.
To organize and conduct the vaccination, be responsible for administration of bio-products, evaluation of effectiveness of vaccination program, study of immunization program strategies.
To provide public health services, such as hygiene detection, physical examination of employee, technical auditing and hygiene quality controlling to the health-related products, and hygiene assessment to location, design, and completeness of the new/rebuilt/enlarge building.
To make health education and promotion, and to provide technical services such as health care information, health consultant and diagnosis and treatment in preventive medicine.
To train the persons in the lower institutes of disease prevention and control, to guide them to make technical rules and plans into use, to implement technical guidance related in patriotic public health campaign.
To set up and improve information network for disease prevention and control and public health in Wuhan, and to charge of information collection ,analysis, prediction and forecasting ,in order to provide the scientific foundation for disease prevention and control.
To organize the researches relating disease prevention and control .To develop international communication and collaboration. And to introduce, develop and promote the new advanced technology.
WHCDC is the center in Wuhan for diseases prevention and control, hygiene examination and evaluation, health technical services and quality control, scientific research and information, technically guiding and training.
